(Dec, 2007) Programmer and Postdocs in Scientific Workflow R&D

The University of California at Davis, Data & Knowledge Systems group is looking for a software developer and two postdoctoral researchers to conduct research and development in the area of scientific workflows.

  • For the Developer position, we are seeking a software engineer to conduct application and systems development in the area of scientific workflow automation and data management within the context of the Kepler collaboration (kepler-project.org). Requirements include:
    • knowledge and experience in computer science and application development
    • demonstrated experience with Java, knowledge of distributed systems and architectures, database management systems
  • For the Postdoctoral/Bioinformatics position, you should have an advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in the life sciences or bioinformatics. The bioinformatics postdoc will work closely with both domain scientists (biologists) and computer scientists to gather requirements, develop scientific workflows for target communities (e.g. genome data analysis, ChIP-chip, phyloinformatics, etc.), and conduct research on scientific workflow technology and bioinformatics applications.
  • For the Postdoctoral/eScience position, you should have a Ph.D. in computer science (or equivalent) and strong interest/experience in scientific data management and/or workflow management. The eScience postdoc will work closely with both computer scientists and domain scientists (e.g. biologists, ecologists, chemists, or physicists).

All new hires will work collaboratively with members of the DAKS group at UC Davis, and collaborators at other sites (e.g. UCSB, UCSD, U Penn, LBL, ORNL).
